Going into business for yourself is not for the faint-hearted. We’ve said it a thousand times before and it is still true. It will always be true because business is hard.
In the modern world where the competition for business space is so high, it is tough. It is competitive.
How many times do you think to yourself, maybe it would just be easier to go back to the 9-5 and work for the boss? Set hours, guaranteed income and you know what you are doing every day.
Yep, it would be easier, but would you be happy? Would you be challenging yourself?
Could you still take your kids to swimming lessons if you were working 9-5?
Business is all about mindset and information.
Your mindset is the catalyst to whether you are going to succeed or fail.
If you have a plan B or a negative mindset from the get-go, then you are probably going to fail. You have already given yourself an out.
Think about it this way.
When you apply for your new dream job and get that elusive phone call saying you have been successful, do you then go into negative mode? No, you are ecstatic! You are so excited about the new challenge, the new job and the fact you beat 20 other people to get it. You might even go out and celebrate with the family.
You don’t get off the phone and think, ‘Well, it’s ok I guess. I’ll see how it goes. The traffic might get to me and I don’t know if I’ll like the people I’m going to work with and I don’t really know if I can do the job…”
No. You don’t.
So why do you let the negative mindset creep in with your own business?
Have you not won your dream job simply by setting it up?
Change your mindset to say, “I have this amazing job that enables me to be there for my kids when they need me. I travel 20 metres to my office and the people I work with are great!”
You are not alone in your business. Yes you are a sole trader, but with online support groups and other Mums and businesswomen going through the same as you, there is always an ear to listen.
In order to make your business a success, you need to think of it as one. You need to say to yourself, “Right, I have won my dream job, now I am going to keep it and make it a success!”
And how do you do that?
You seek information. Along with mindset, information is the next most crucial asset you can have in business.
You can never have too much and there is always something you can learn.
Arm yourself with the information you need to get you where you want to go, and go and get it!
Use Google, use forums, use other business groups. Chances are, someone has asked the question before or been there done that and can now help you.
So go on. Grab your dream job by the you know what’s and blow your negative mindset out of the water.
